sold / Postmodern 'Concorde' dining table by Torstein Flatøy for Bahus, 1980s
sold
By means of shapes, colours, textures and lines furniture performs as a mediator between space and its users. The Norwegian designer Torstein Flatøy composed this ‘Concorde’ dining set of an array of rectangular shapes and diagonal lines. The broad white surfaces balance out the hectic play of lines that form their basis.
This new, playful, engagement with composition was something asstranged to the more serene Scandinavian modern design. Exploring new combinations of materials and shapes and with that the confinements of visual language of design, Flatøy clearly looked at his Italian colleagues pursuing new aesthetics in the field of design we now associate with Postmodernism.
