sold / Hand painted ceramic coffee table by Juliette Belarti, 1960s

This brutalist ceramic and chrome coffee table is signed by Juliette Belarti, a pseudonym for the Belgian designer Julien Covemaeker. It was designed and produced in the 1960s. The separate ceramic tiles have been hand painted by him in his workshop somewhere in Oostende, where he also made ceramic statues and vases. The unique character of each object was very important to Belarti. Every single piece that can be traced back to his workshop has been made by hand, making industrial counterfeiting almost impossible.
