Mou squared dining table in walnut by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Molteni, 1970s

Teaming up as husband and wife, Tobia and Afra Scarpa envisioned furniture and entire interiors elaborating on latest innovations and embracing a wide range of materials. She was from Montebelluna, he from Venice, where they met and fell in love, both attending the Università LUAV di Venezia. In 1960 they started their own design office in Montebelluna and from there nothing but great success crossed their paths. Thorough research into the latest technological innovations providing them with new possibilities, brought them many fruitful collaborations with Gavina, Cassina, B&B Italia and Molteni amongst others.

In 1973, they introduced the ‘Mou’ coffee and dining table. A design that is dominated by clear lines referring to its clean structure, in line with Tobia and Afra’s recurring minimalist aesthetic. Minimalism, but elegance is key to their oeuvre. This paradox is once more achieved with the Mou design by its beautifully rounded edges and the choice for the warm walnut wood.

Our Mou table is in overall very good vintage condition, but shows a water stain in the shape of a circle.
